Piget · The Rise and Fall of a Ghost
So Alien Always
Home is the place where we find a meaning to stay. Without meaning and the will to integrate into the environment in which we live we will always be like aliens, everywhere.

[Verse 1]
In the certainty of the past,
among slowly fading memories,
I am searching for something that lasts
beyond the veil of vanities.
I feel discomfort in the present,
while the future may bring worse,
’cause the planet’s ruin is evident
and mankind bears the curse.
Maybe war or an asteroid fall
could finally silence our troubles,
imagine raising a world for all
from ashes turned to stubbles.
[Bridge 1]
If we lose that newborn place
through the same old hands of men,
still chasing futures we long to face
while learning how to rise again.
This is the moment celebrated,
slipping into the halls of night,
where every thought is dissipated
Oblivion is the only real light.
[Verse 2]
Isn’t this the shape of death,
to drift without truly living,
counting days in a fading breath
No waste of energy left for giving.
We fail to grasp what differs from us,
for our gaze stays turned within,
and the heart becomes a zealous compass
that denies what others believe.
[Bridge 2]
Slogans rise like borrowed shields,
walls of noise replace all speaking,
costly signals from tribal fields
to prove the loyalty we’re seeking.
They don’t debate to see your sight,
they erase you from their sphere,
crafting borders where their right
is the only law held dear.
[Chorus]
So we live as aliens always,
in every land we roam,
unable to walk its winding ways
and never calling it home.
[Verse 3]
Safe is the fortress of refusal,
where Good and Evil are decreed,
Because the different brings a tremor crucial
Truth follows what they need.
So these aliens turn to childish claims,
demanding rights as tribute due,
expecting others to feed their aims
and to bless their point of view.
[Bridge 3]
With happiness enthroned as fate,
we raised the self-adoring mind,
worshippers of matter who create
the ruin they leave behind.
Reality has lost its breath,
and duty shares its fall,
leaving us wandering after its death
as strangers to it all.
[Chorus]
So we live as aliens always,
in every land we roam,
unable to walk its winding ways
and never calling it home.
Song explanation · EN
A deep blues voice and a piano blend into a driving rhythm with electronic bass. While the past is a certainty in which to take refuge, as if awakened from a dream, the present and future seem fainter than memories:
political upheavals, climate change, social uncertainty, and the pursuit of material well-being dominate people's concerns. The world no longer appears to be the place of our hopes, but rather the place where the executioner of our happiness resides, a manifestation of the thirst for power.
This executioner seems to be human beings themselves. Our race toward progress has been driven by the ambition to prevail over others: over nature, over animals, or over other human beings. Something in our history must have gone wrong if we ended up ruining the world.
But if the world is different from us, then we, unable to sustainably integrate into its vital ecosystem, are like aliens to it.
We are destroying our planet, exploiting all the resources we can, as long as we can, because we consider it our right. And it seems impossible to change the order of things.
Perhaps only another war, or perhaps an asteroid, could put an end to our problems, and then, as if following an apocalypse that reveals our mistakes, we could start over better.
We wait for an external, natural, messianic change, and in the meantime we try to enjoy our time on Earth, taking refuge in the oblivion of our worries. Isn't this death: erasing all meaning from our existence?
We find comfort in the solitude of our existence in the search for belonging, which, without reasons for our individual actions, turns into an a priori faith in indisputable ideologies, refusing to engage with other interlocutors, who are instead expelled from our own moral horizon.
So we are always alienated, even from each other, and we will never fit in anywhere. Strangers everywhere, we can't call any place "home." We even prefer to destroy and ruin the place we live in, in order to defend the reasons that guide us, the ones we've identified with ourselves. To escape oblivion, exorcising it from responsibility for our actions, we've absorbed it and it's incarnated within us. Thus, we're even alienated from the meaning of existence.

[Strofa 1]
potrebbero finalmente mettere a tacere i nostri tormenti,
dalle ceneri trasformate in stoppie.
[Ponte 1]
Se perdiamo quel luogo appena nato
per mano delle solite mani degli uomini,
continuando a inseguire futuri che desideriamo affrontare
mentre impariamo a risorgere.
Questo è il momento celebrato,
scivolando nelle sale della notte,
dove ogni pensiero si dissolve
L'oblio è l'unica vera luce.
[Strofa 2]
Non è questa la forma della morte,
vagare senza vivere veramente,
perché il nostro sguardo rimane rivolto all'interno,
[Ritornello]
Così viviamo sempre come stranieri,
in ogni terra che vaghiamo,
incapaci di percorrere i suoi sentieri tortuosi
e senza mai chiamarla casa.
[Strofa 3]
esigendo diritti come tributo dovuto,
[Ponte 3]
Con la felicità intronizzata come destino,
abbiamo cresciuto la mente egocentrica,
adoratori della materia che creano
la rovina che si lasciano alle spalle.
La realtà ha perso il respiro,
e il dovere condivide la sua caduta,
lasciandoci vagare dopo la sua morte
come estranei a tutto ciò.
[Ritornello]
Così viviamo sempre come alieni,
in ogni terra che vaghiamo,
incapaci di percorrerne i sentieri tortuosi
e senza mai chiamarla casa.
Song explanation · IT
